1-La Fête des Lumières

La Fête des Lumières is a major event in Lyon around December 8th. It’s a big event related to history and it’s to thank the Virgin Mary for saving the city against diseases. Traditionally, the citizens put small lanterns on apartments or houses windows that night, so it makes the city full of lights. Nowadays it became a big Light Festivalattracting people all around the world. The city is really crowded around December 8th so you better plan your trip and accommodation ahead.

2-Les Nuits de Fourvière (June to August)

Les Nuits de Fourvières is a music festival that takes place on the Fourvière hills. The scenery is great since the audience is seated in an old Antic Theater outdoor. The festival hosts all kind of music so if you check the program you can surely find something you like.

3-Les Nuits Sonores  (Late May)

Les Nuits Sonores is another music festival in Lyon but it focuses on electronic music. It takes place late May each year and attracts music lovers from all Europe. The good part of this festival is that a lot of music shows are on the streets, so anybody can enjoy the music at any time during the festival.

4-La Vogue des Marrons (October)

This is a temporary amusement park located on the top of the Croix-Rousse hill. For the whole month of October, you can enjoy the place and the atmosphere. It’s also the good place to eat Marrons Chauds or other amusement park snacks. The park is not big but usually crowded!

5-Braderie de la Croix Rousse (Mid September)

Similar to La Vogue des Marrons, the market starts at the Croix-Rousse Metro Station and continues at the Grande Rue de la Croix-Rousse and Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse. It’s a big market and you’ll be able to feel the atmosphere of the Croix-Rousse hill, although people come from all the City area.

6-Watch a football match of Olympique Lyonnais Football Team

Lyon Football Team is famous like are PSG (Paris) or OM (Marseille) Teams. People from Lyon like to support their team and the stadium host games regularly. Mind to check the games calendar ahead of your trip.

7-Riding a Bike on the Rhône River Banks

Lyon River Banks are beautiful, they make the city a really nice place to live for every day. You will always see people running or biking on the river banks, so as people relaxing, playing music, eating or having a drink at the bar boats. The scenery is nice and there is still a bit of nature around.

8-Ride The Lyon Ferris Wheel La Grande Roue de Bellecour

At Place Bellecour, the big wheel is running all the winter in Lyon. The place is big and you’ll have a good view of Lyon and its two hills (Croix-Rousse, Fourvière) from the top of the wheel. It’s also a good idea to ride around the Light Festival early December.

9-Take the boat on the Saône and Rhône Rivers

Lyon also have its bateaux-mouches. They have actually different boats available, depending on if you want to eat, enjoy the city or just move from a place to another. From the two rivers in Lyon you can admire the main places and monuments. Lyon is not big and it will give you a good insight of the size of the city.

10-Fête de la musique (June 21th)

The Yearly music festival is in every city, but coming in Lyon this night is a good thing. You can go all the way from walking from the City Hall (Hotel de Ville) to Place Bellecour and enjoy many shows. Each music style is represented and you can check the program and choose where to go according to the style you like.
