Visit Lyon: 5 Museums To Visit In Lyon #1

  • Le petit musée de Guignol
Gnafron, Madelon et Guignol en bas du GourguillonÉ

Guignol is a puppet and a symbol of Lyon, very famous among kids, it is a short story in a play for kids. I did watch it when I was a kid (there is a Guignol theater in the middle of Parc de la Tête d’Or, the famous park in Lyon). This museum is all about the figurines and the story of Guignol. Guignol became famous nationwide and there used to be a TV series for more than 30 years “les guignols de l’info”. They used famous politicians puppet and it was very funny.

  • Musée des beaux-arts de Lyon

This museum is in the middle of the city, near a beautiful place where you can find one of Bartholdi’s fountain. The building itself is beautiful, furthermore there is a courtyard, inside where you can have a rest. Many workers also enjoy this square inside for the lunch. It is out of the city’s noises and very quiet. The museum holds classical exhibitions, and most of great quality.

  • Musée d’art contemporain

The “MAC” is near the Saône river and next to the Parc de La Tête d’Or. There is also a movie theater and a concert hall nearby. Mainly Art Contemporain. There is always something to get your attention in this kind of museum.

  • Musée des confluences

Quite ugly to my opinion, maybe they mistaken and picked the loser in the contest list for this architecture. Anyway, it is brand new and located in a developing area in the south of the city. The exhibitions so far are good and you can spend a good moment, in this museum and the environment is good because the district is all new.

  • Musées Gadagne

There is a museum about the history of the city and another one about puppets. It is located in the old part of the city, so the trip itself worth it. I think it is a good place for families and for kids especially for the puppets.

Every year Museum are all free, for the Journée du Patrimoine.
